Iran’s supreme leader publishes book calling to wipe out Israel

Khamenei described in book as ‘flagbearer of Jihad to liberate Jerusalem’

Iran’s supreme leader has published a new book outlining why and how Israel must be wiped out.

According to a report in the New York Post, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s book, titled “Palestine,” argues the “solution is a one-state formula” – the establishment of a state under Muslim rule called Palestine.

Khamenei calls the notion a “practical and logical mechanism” wherein some Jews would be permitted to remain in Israel as a “protected minority” after having proven “genuine roots.”

The book reportedly also advocates strict apartheid measures against Jews “who have come from other places,” in the form of the latter being excluded from voting.

Khamenei is described in the text as “the flagbearer of Jihad to liberate Jerusalem” and says his plan is not anti-Semitic, but rather relies on “well-established Islamic principles.”

According to the report, one such principle is the belief that a land that falls under Muslim rule can never be ceded to non-Muslims. Maps showcasing such lands show Israel, along with Russia, many parts of Europe, Thailand, India and China as territories that must be recovered.

Khamenei says in the book that Israel “occupies” Jerusalem, which he refers to as “Islam’s third Holy City.”

Regarding the Holocaust, the Iranian leader describes the historical event as a “propaganda ploy.”

“We don’t know why it happened and how,” he writes.

The 416-page book is presently available in Persian, but is slated to be published in Arabic shortly, the Post said.

US Democrats see ‘fire wall’ holding to preserve Iran deal

Meanwhile, US backers of the Iran nuclear deal are increasingly confident of enough Democratic support to ensure it survives review by Congress, despite fierce opposition by majority Republicans and a massive lobbying drive.

By the time the House of Representatives recessed for the summer last week, no senior Democrat in the chamber had come out formally against the agreement and several central figures, including Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, were strongly in favor.

Pelosi said she was confident that if, as expected, Republicans pass a “resolution of disapproval” to try to sink the deal, a promised veto of that measure by President Barack Obama would be sustained.

At least 44 Democrats in the House and 13 Democrats in the Senate would have to defy Obama and join Republicans in opposing the deal to get the two-thirds majorities in both chambers needed to override a veto.

“More and more of them (House Democrats) have confirmed to me that they will be there to sustain the veto,” Pelosi told reporters.

The United States was the prime negotiator in the July 14 agreement between world powers and Iran to curtail Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for lifting sanctions, and its engagement is essential for implementing it.

Powerful pro-Israel lobbying groups that believe it would endanger the Jewish state by empowering Iran have been especially active, although some pro-Israel factions support the deal.

The pressure has been particularly strong on high-profile Jewish Democrats known as strong supporters of Israel.
